The British Virgin Islands are a short ferry ride from St. Thomas and St. John — but they require a valid U.S. passport. Yacht owners repositioning to the BVI for charter season, day trippers heading to The Baths on Virgin Gorda, and crew members joining vessels in Road Town all need current passports. Ferry operators and CBP enforce this requirement at every departure. Expired passports are the number one reason USVI residents get turned away at the ferry terminal.

Passport tip: Even though STT-to-Miami is a domestic route, if your final destination is international, you need a valid passport at check-in. Airlines will deny boarding at STT if your passport is expired, even if the first leg is domestic.

St. Croix residents traveling internationally connect through these mainland hubs.
